Anushkha now more careful, diplomatic

Known for playing headstrong, opinionated girls in movies like 'Band Baaja Baaraat' and 'Badmaash Company', actress Anushka Sharma says she is learning to be more diplomatic now after landing in trouble because of her brash nature. The 23-year-old actress, who charmed her way through the crowd in a shimmery gown as she walked the red carpet for the world premiere of 'Ladies Vs Ricky Behl' with co-star Ranveer Singh last night at the Dubai International Film Festival, says she did not know much about Bollywood when she made her debut with 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' at the age of 19.

"I was 19 when I did Rab Ne... I never wanted to be an actress. If I had an idea about this I would have followed the life of actors and how they conduct themselves."Films were not such a big part of my growing up years. So when I got sucked into this industry, the biggest trouble for me was a kind of social pressure. There is a certain protocol one has to follow and I was a bit brash... I think I am still brash. I just used to put out my opinion but I am a bit more careful, more diplomatic now because anything can be used against you," Anushka told PTI.

The actress says she is just like any independent Indian girl, who has an opinion on anything and everything but she has begun learning not to be so straight forward in public. Anushka started her career opposite Shah Rukh Khan and despite being very new to the industry, she has made a name for herself by picking up different roles. The actress says she tries to pick up scripts that are strong and characters that are relatable.

"I am trying to pick up good scripts, after that comes my role. I search for relatable characters because I want my audience to leave the theatre feeling they can do what I am doing on the big screen. When I was growing up I used to watch Kajol and Rani (Mukherjee) and used to behave like that... These girls have an aspirational value but at the same time they are very relatable," she said. "It is very easy to be a star and look completely unattainable."
