"No one is my buddy in Bollywood"

Even after completing a decade in the industry, actress Bipasha Basu says she has no close friends in Bollywood.

The 33-year-old actress says she has her own reservations when it comes to approaching a filmmaker for a role. "If I meet someone at a function, I do say hello. I am cordial to all. However, I can't pick up the phone next morning and propose to plan a film together. A lot of this is also due to the fact that no one is my buddy in Bollywood. I know that for some out there this does count. Nothing wrong with that but then that's just not me," Bipasha told PTI.

"On my speed dial, there is no one from the industry. When a role is offered and it is good enough then I do that. Otherwise I wait for the next right opportunity," she added.

However, in the cut throat competition that prevails in Bollywood, doesn't she feel that she could be losing out on movies?

"Audience has been quite gracious in accepting me as an actor. Frankly, I have learnt it all on the job. Otherwise when I started off in 'Ajnabee', I was pretty much a lost child. I have grown from that point on and am far more responsible today," Bipasha told PTI.

The 33-year-old actress says she had joined films because she wanted a break from modelling. "I stepped into films just for the fun of it because I had got bored of modelling. I didn't have any clue what acting was all about and it is to the credit of Abbas-Mustan that they held my finger and guided me throughout."

"I almost got dropped from 'Singularity'"

Bipasha Basu, who is making her Hollywood debut with 'Singularity', says she almost got dropped from the project because of her hectic Bollywood schedule which left her with little time to prepare for the period drama.

"Bollywood actors work a lot. I remember I could not fit my dates for 'Singularity'. Roland Joffe (director) wanted me to train for a month and I could get only a week. There was a time when Roland would have dropped me because I was not giving enough time for the preparations," Bipasha told PTI.

"Everyone was in Australia for a month and I was the only one who came in for a week. I came and shot 'Palyers' in Goa and went back to Australia and by that time everyone had learnt how to ride a horse and I had not even started." Bipasha, who is one of the main leads in the movie, plays a Maratha warrior Tulaja Naik in the period drama, set against the backdrop of first Anglo-Maratha war.

Bipasha has inhibitions locking lips on screen

From cladding a bikini in 'Dhoom' and 'Players' to doing bold scenes in 'Jism' and a raunchy item number in 'Omkara', sultry Bipasha Basu says she has inhibitions doing kissing scenes in films. She had showed her bold side in 'Jism' (2003) with ex-beau John Abraham, especially in the song 'Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai'. For Aditya Chopra's 'Dhoom 2', she wore a bikini and then sizzled the screen with an item song 'Beedi Jalaile Le' in 'Omkara', which became a rage.

"For me, love making is no big deal, it is like any other thing. But when it comes to kissing, I have not overcome it. It is tough. I feel it is too private a moment and also the way we are we brought up, the kind of cinema we are exposed to when I started acting, kissing was not a regular thing. But now, in every film, kissing is regular," Bipasha told PTI.

"When I see an English film, I feel it is no big deal, but when I have to do it, it's a very big deal. I have still not overcome it, it is bit of a block that I have," she said. In her eleven years of acting career, Bipasha has done two kissing scenes-- one with John in 'Jism' and Ranbir Kapoor in 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'. "When I had to do it (a kissing scene) I was paranoid.
