Surinder Kapoor, father of Anil, Boney and Sanjay Kapoor, passed away following a massive heart attack. A prayer meeting in his memory will take place today .
Kapoor was well known as a filmmaker to reckon with in the '70s and '80s. He produced films like Ponga Pandit (1975), Hum Paanch (1980) and Woh Saat Din (1983). His last film as a producer was No Entry in 2005, along with his son Anil Kapoor. He was also a keen hockey buff.
Kapoor was also the president of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India from 1995 to 2001.
He started his film career as a secretary to film actress Gita Bali and then went on to become an assistant director with the film Mughal e Azam. Kapoor was 88.
His death comes close on the heels of a series of deaths related to the Hindi film industry, the latest being that of ace photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha.
