Happy Birthday Sunny

Sunny Deol is one of the brightest star who hit the screen in the eighties with Betaab and Arjun. He is often credited as "The Action King of Bollywood” and known for  his brawny built for which  the credit goes to Hollywood action star Sylvester Stallone. Sunny trained himself in the Sylvester Stallone gym to tone his physique. Today Sunny Deol as well as his large fans are celebrating his birthday.

His movie 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha',was the second highest grossing movie of Indian film history.Sunny played the role of lorry driver Tara Singh who falls in love with a Muslim girl in film. If we take inflation into account and highest grossing film of 20th century.Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is the most watched film in theaters of modern era. The film enjoyed wide spread success. Set during the 1947 partition of India and the Hindu-Muslim riots, Sunny played a truck driver Tara Singh who falls in love with a Muslim girl Sakina.

Love in the time of Partition is the theme of Anil Sharma-directed 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha'. The film, produced by Nitin Keni (of Zee Films), flips back the dark pages of our history (partition) and, against its backdrop, delineates the story of two lovers and their struggle to stay together. In a nutshell, Gadar was a film with a patriotic theme woven around a touching love story. Uttam Singh's music and Anand Bakshi's lyrics have an earthy feel that gels well with the film's theme.

It is a known fact that Gadar is one of the 3-4 major movies that have come from India. It is one of the biggest blockbusters and has got me so much respect over the years. Also remember that there were no multiplexes in those times. In fact even till date, the Mumbai record for the film hasn't been broken. If released today, the film would have done the business of Rs.100 crores just in Mumbai territory. People get excited even till date when it comes on Television.

Sunny Deol was on October 19, 1952 in New Delhi, India. He had an affair with Dimple Kapadia, which was much publicized affair. It all started when the married Sunny and Dimple were cast in a series of movies together including the popular movie Narsimha  (1991). The two had also previously acted together in the hit movie Arjun (1985). Unconfirmed sources report that their affair lasted for more than a period of 11 years.

Their affair was brought to an abrupt halt, though, not by a change of heart by Sunny, but by the damsel Raveena Tandon, who found solace in Sunny’s arms next. Even though Sunny has been living happily with his wife Pooja since then, Dimple and Sunny were spotted together in a hospital recently.

He acted in movies like Tridev, starred the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. The plot about three men from diverse backgrounds who come together to fight the baddies was well received. Chaal Baaz (1989) with Sridevi and Rajnikanth was also a success. His performance as the boxer in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ghayal (1992) with Meenakshi Sheshadri was remarked as brilliant and he won the Filmfare Best Actor Award.

Film,Damini was a huge success, winning him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award, as was Yash Chopra’s Darr with Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. The audience continued to see him in movies like Vishwathma, Insaniyat, Jeet and Border. He played Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in J.P.Dutta’s Border (1997) that won many awards. Zor was another movie that was a critical success.Sunny and Bobby Deol appeared together for the first time in Dillagi 1999. In another role as an officer in the Indian Army, The Hero – Love Story of a Spy did well. Fool and Final (2007) was based on Hollywood flick Snatch. He was part of a larger star cast in Heroes (2008). He has five movies in 2009 – Airport, Hello Darling, Filmi Khabar, The Man and Right Ya Wrong.

Sunny Deol has always maintained a low profile in the media about his personal life. He is married to Pooja Deol. His wife has never faced the media till date like other celebrity wives. The couple have two sons Rajvir Deol and Ranvir Deol. They live close to their extended family in Mumbai,India.
