Sunny Deol is one of the brightest star who hit the screen in the eighties with Betaab and Arjun. He is often credited as "The Action King of Bollywood” and known for his brawny built for which the credit goes to Hollywood action star Sylvester Stallone. Sunny trained himself in the Sylvester Stallone gym to tone his physique. Today Sunny Deol as well as his large fans are celebrating his birthday.
His movie 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha',was the second highest grossing movie of Indian film history.Sunny played the role of lorry driver Tara Singh who falls in love with a Muslim girl in film. If we take inflation into account and highest grossing film of 20th century.Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is the most watched film in theaters of modern era. The film enjoyed wide spread success. Set during the 1947 partition of India and the Hindu-Muslim riots, Sunny played a truck driver Tara Singh who falls in love with a Muslim girl Sakina.
Love in the time of Partition is the theme of Anil Sharma-directed 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha'. The film, produced by Nitin Keni (of Zee Films), flips back the dark pages of our history (partition) and, against its backdrop, delineates the story of two lovers and their struggle to stay together. In a nutshell, Gadar was a film with a patriotic theme woven around a touching love story. Uttam Singh's music and Anand Bakshi's lyrics have an earthy feel that gels well with the film's theme.
It is a known fact that Gadar is one of the 3-4 major movies that have come from India. It is one of the biggest blockbusters and has got me so much respect over the years. Also remember that there were no multiplexes in those times. In fact even till date, the Mumbai record for the film hasn't been broken. If released today, the film would have done the business of Rs.100 crores just in Mumbai territory. People get excited even till date when it comes on Television.
