Asha regales audience with melodious numbers

Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle mesmerised the audience here till the early hours today with her popular numbers, singing and tapping in her typical youthful style, defying age. "When I can sing and dance at 79, why can't you?"

Asha asked her fans, who waited in large numbers patiently to hear her golden melodies till 11.30 PM, when her concert on the occasion of Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day began.
The legendary singer, all fired up, took on to the stage with her popular song 'Yeh Mera Dil, Pyar Ka Deewana' forcing the people to forget the November chill that has set in the city of lakes.

Later, she left the audience spellbound with the hit number 'Chura Liya hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko' from the film 'Yaadon Ki Baraat'. She also recited a bhajan 'Tora Man darpan Kah Laye' from the film Kaajal in the honour of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife Sadhna. The duo later honoured her on the stage by presenting a shawl, shriphal and a citation.

The singer ended her performance on popular demand by crooning 'Dum Maro Dum' from 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and 'Piya tu ab to Aaja' from 'Caravan' around one in the morning to a thundering applause from a packed gathering. Asha, who was performing for the first time in Bhopal did not forget to remember her connection with Madhya Pradesh as she and her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar were both born in Indore.

She said whenever she visits Indore, she never misses an opportunity to visit the late night Sarafa market to enjoy mouth-watering specialities like 'Garadu' and 'Rabri'. Earlier, yesteryear Dream Girl Hema Malini presented her dance-drama 'Durga' on the occasion.

Madhya Pradesh Governor, Ram Naresh Yadav and Culture and Public Relations Minister, Laxmikant Sharma were among others present on the occasion.
